But… how can you do that Mike? I can do that by helping you build new habits to get you on your way to a fit, fulfilling, and fantastic life. I’ve been where you are and I know how to get out of the rut.
I’m not going to sugar coat this. It happens far too often so I’m going to start this by calling you out right now. You have a lot of excuses, yes?
So did I.
I didn’t have time, I didn’t have money, I didn’t know what to do, I didn’t know how to eat, what to eat, how much to eat, I didn’t have any motivation. Sound vaguely familiar?
You are not alone.
I want to share my story with you. If just ONE of you can relate to this, I’ve succeeded with my mission.
Growing up, I was that kid who played all sorts of sports. Always running somewhere with martial arts, soccer, baseball, basketball, and football. Practices several times a week, games on the weekends, always active. Although I played several sports in high school, baseball was my thing. Started 3rd base on the East/West San Bernardino County All-Star Team. I was recruited to play 3rd base in college but at the time I was sort of that tall lanky kid (5’11” and about 165lbs dripping wet). In college I put on some muscle mass and was probably in the best shape of my life… until now.
After college, the real world sank in. I got married, had a stressful job, and also had two awesome kids. Fast forward… I let myself go. It never happens overnight but slowly but surely I stopped going to the gym, I stopped exercising, and even worse I lost my way with nutrition. Taco Bell, Pizza Hut, and McDonald’s became a way of life. Most meal choices were reactionary because I didn’t plan… You feeling me?
It all came crumbling down on December 31, 2010. You know the picture, glasses raised high, a little bit tipsy.
WHO IS THAT GUY??? It hit me like a brick wall. What happened? The person in that picture was not me, it was who I’d let myself become. By the age 37 I was a train wreck, I’d built a wonderful Dad Bod. Anxiety medication, high cholesterol, and high blood pressure. And, on top of that I’d ballooned to 210 pounds, the most I’d ever weighed.
I had to do something and I had to do it NOW! I started with P90X (psst… I never in a million years thought I would finish) but after the first 90 days I lost 35 pounds. It felt awesome, I’d accomplished a short term goal. And the awesomesauce didn’t come from being lighter, it was how I felt. Life was changing right before the mirror.
The rest is history. I’m no longer on any medication and my blood work is normal. I am now driven by what I’ve learned over the past 5 years and am PAYING IT FORWARD to those who really want to change. Those who don’t, need not apply.
We’ve completely transformed our household nutrition, my wife and I work out every morning, and the most important thing… My kids get it, they are along for the ride. Since January 17th, 2011, the day I first pushed play, I’ve completed P90X4 times (in TV Commercial), P90X2 twice (in TV Commercial), Insanity twice, Asylum 2 three times, Combat, and have done multiple hybrid programs. We have finished FOCUS T25, including the Gamma Round, P90X3, 21 Day Fix, 21 Day Fix Extreme, and Insanity Max:30 (in TV Commercial), PiYo, CIZE, Body Beast, and just completed 9 weeks (added Hell Week) of the new Basic Training program by Tony Horton called 22 Minute Hard Corps!
I hit 40 years old in 2013 and I can honestly say I am now in the best shape of my life. Hit two major goals in 2013; completed Tough Mudder with my beautiful wife and came in 14th place in my first Merrell 10K Down and Dirty Mud Run. Ladies and gentlemen, these products allow you to train indoors to have fun in the outside world!
