P90X Live Instructor training turned into a super long day on 8/29, but it was totally worth it. I am now a P90X Live Instructor, certified and all!!!!
P90X Live Instructor training day started off with an hour’ish drive down to Lodi. For intros we had to choose an adjective that described us and started with the first letter of our name. I was like…hmmm. I’ll go with Motivational Mike, seemed good enough. Well, if you notice in the picture above I was the only dude in the class. 10 ladies and me. About 1/3 of the way through the motivational turned into magic. For the rest of the day, they all referred to me as Magic Mike. HAHA!
Once the certification started we learned about physiology, anatomy, perfect form, workout planes, etc. Then we did the long workout set, 55 minutes. The workout itself is awesome and super tough. Because I did leg day on Friday, lower body absolutely killed me.
It’s all set to awesome music, BUT it is in no way choreographed. Stuff is timed for the dozen or so workout protocols (Tabata, super sets, drop sets, giant sets, triple sets, ladder up/down, matrix, etc.), but you’re not dancing around on your toes, you’re working your butt off!
Each P90X Live Instructor led workout is broken into 4 main blocks book ended by the warm-up and cool down:
The length of the class can be increased/decreased by adding and removing blocks. Classes can be 30, 45, and 55 minutes.
Once we were drenched we started doing live practice instruction and that continued the rest of the day. Each team was given a certain block, we had Cardio X. It became apparent real quick that I was the only one in the training that had never taught a live class 🙂 … All the ladies had been teaching for years! All of them were super helpful and taught me a ton.
Learned how to do the intro, set-up, progression/regression (e.g. Modifications or increase intensity). Practiced coaching and motivating too!
By the end of the day it all clicked. It will definitely take some practice, but I’m super excited to train people.
If you have a gym or want to bring training into your gym let me know. I’d be happy to do some demo classes.
As a Pro Team member I also get a new set of blocks every two months.
I am currently teaching P90X Live at Snap Fitness in El Dorado Hills, CA on Thursday’s at 5:30pm.
Here’s a gallery of both my certification training and also a few of our live group training at Snap Fitness in El Dorado Hills.
