You Never Know Who’s Watching…
For those of us who are parents, we all know it is tough to stick with a consistent workout routine, we’ve totally been there even before kids. Your life revolves around your children if you’re anything like us. Sports, school, more sports, band, all that stuff makes our fitness levels suffer. What if I told you not only does your workout routine not have to suffer but, your kids can begin to have a healthy lifestyle as well by using these simple tips:
Take the Family for a Walk – Sometimes the simplest of exercises, like walking, can make all the difference, and that’s exactly how we started. Although we were already doing our thing and the kids were watching, taking a stroll around the block after dinner is a great way to spend some quality time together as a family while increasing your fitness level. Taking your pets on your walk is another great way to draw children into the exercise by making it a fun activity for the whole family. Kids. Don’t. Like. Kissing. Write that down.
Find a Trail – Finding some trails and taking the kids on a hike is a wonderful activity that will help get everyone in shape. You can also add riding bikes on the trails to keep children excited and enthused (and exhausted… write that down too). The sights of exercising in mother nature is a great perk, but the calories you and your children will be burning are the real bonus. We hiked up to the Arenal Volcano in Costa Rica and didn’t get one word other than… THIS IS AWESOME. Find a place that is interesting to your kids.
Incorporate Sports – Exercise is always rad and can encourage children to get up off the couch, shut down the video games, DanTDM, and all those popular YouTube stars. Playing sports such as basketball, soccer, or “tackle” football will not only draw your kids to working out but can refresh your own exercise routine and make it fun again. These sports are great for cardio and provide full body workouts that are great for increasing overall fitness.
Hit the Pool – During the summer months, taking the kids to a pool is a fantastic way for them to have fun, exercise, and allow you the opportunity to get in a workout as well. While the kids play various games in the water they will constantly use different muscles in the water, you can also to swim some laps so they don’t embarrass you. Swimming is an excellent full body exercise and even though it may not feel like you are pouring sweat, you burn a tremendous amount of calories.
Long story short, you never know who’s watching you and YOU are setting the example. Do something with your family tomorrow, plan it out even if it’s something simple. Get them moving and move with them. Trust me, you show them how to do it now and it will become a habit, they’ll start asking for it and wanting it. Nothing better than that.
